Jerome* feels that he is not good looking and wants to
know whether he actually looks good or not. His day begins with him standing in
front of the mirror. He gets ready for college then takes another look in the
mirror and then leaves for college.
He takes a look at himself in the various reflective surfaces that he comes across, be it car mirrors, reflective windows and even his friend’s spectacles. Jerome feels his pictures are never good, he either looks fat in them or his face doesn’t look good.
When in college the questions he asks his friends are like Is my hair fine? Is it styled properly? Does my face look oily? Have I put on weight? Does my nose look huge? And then almost after every lecture he gets his smartphone out and takes a look at himself. And the same things follow, I think my nose looks fat, I think my hair is weird and so on. If someone asks him whether he has put on weight he thinks he has indeed gained some, and then Jerome who is already on a special diet because he thinks he’s fat when he’s not, starves himself even more till he has lost some weight. Jerome thinks his not perfect and is very ugly and that everyone else is prefect. He feels his nose is too fat and wants to get a nose job done.
